I have a vmware host ubuntu 10.04 running on a windoze2003 server.
I initially assigned the hard drive of the ubuntu virtual server to 10 gig. All of a sudden my network management server on the ubuntu went down.
I logged in and it said no space.
I manually changed the 10gig to 20 on the vmware server 2.0 side.
How do I get the ubuntu to recognize the expanded size of the hard drive.
I cannot delete anything and cannot install anything like gparted on the ubuntu as it is out of room.
ANy ideas? Thx.

There are quite a few methods for expanding you file system depending on the type. Generally, you have to boot from a live CD (Knoppix, Ubuntu Desktop), then delete the journal, which turns it into an ext2 file system. Then rebuild the partition. You won't lose data.

Here is a good model for ext3: Page 2 is for extending the partition

Take your time!
