Dear Forum members,

I am having a serious problem. I need to typeset about 100 tables in Quark, replacing the English original with Chinese translation. Due to the below situation, the workload becomes overwhelming. I wonder if any forum member has any tip to share to allow me to work in a more efficient way. Thank you in advance!

The English tables with a country list have been translated into Chinese and sorted according to Chinese. My job now is to put the Chinese table back to Quark. The table sorted in Chinese way is totally different from the way the English table is sorted. As a result, all the data related to each country have to be reentered. Right now, what I do is to manually reenter all the data. Is there a more efficient way to do it in Quark?

Regards,

yi

You may be able to do this (at least on a Mac) using a database and scripts:
1) in database such as Filemaker, define fields in English and Chinese for each variable
2) In Quark, have the script look up whichever field is unique in the database, save the corresponding Chinese entries to variables, then replace the info in cells (by position) with the appropriate variable.

writing the script and testing it on a dummy file could take a bit of time, but would probably be faster than replacing all entries if your table is large.
