I have received a 2 color file from a client. When I go to color seperate the file, some words trap, and others do not. Does anyone know why this could be happening?

What point size is the type?

What colors are the type and the background?

Is the type in front of a placed image?

When you say it doesn't trap, do you mean that it knocks out or overprints?

Have you made any trapping settings for the specific colors (Edit Colors -> Edit Trap)?

Have you tried setting the trapping manually with Windows -> Show Trap Information?

As for the font size, there are multiple words. Basically, a client sent me an image with dropshadows on the text. To do this, he overlapped text boxes. When i color seperated it though, I was not able to get the one color to knockout the other color. They were just two solids. I was able to retype it in illustrator, and it worked. But that doesn't explain the problem in quark. I did go into the colors and edit the traps, nothing happened.

If the "text" is a placed image from Illustrator or Freehand, have you checked their own trapping settings in that application?

e.g. A line of text set to overprint in illustrator and imported into Quark will overprint in Quark.

The text was done in quark. it's a drop shadow created in quark...by using two text boxes of different colors. One color is pantone 185. the other is pantone -reflex blue. the 185 box is placed above the reflex box. I am begining to t hink the only way to do it is to create the same text in illustrator and bring it in as an image.

I assume you tried editing the trap info manually by going to Windows -> Show trap information ?
