I am looking at developing asp pages that would access a SQL 2000 database/tables. Can I just purchase a Standard Edition single user license? Or what do I need?
If users accessing the ASP pages will be coming from the Internet, you will need to buy Processor licensing for SQL Server 2000. There is no way around this requirement.
If the users are all internal to you organzation, you can buy Per Set licensing. You'll have to do some calculations to find the point where Per Seat licensing becomes more costly than Processor licensing. Terry L. Broadbent Programming and Computing Resources
Can I use the Eval copy for 'Proof of Concept' then upgrade to Standard? I know there is a info sheet in the MS KB about 'How to Upgrade to SQL Server 2000 Retail Version After SQL Server 2000 Evaluation' but the document regarding the eval says 'Eval Edition is not for production use; solutions must be deployed on SWL Server 2000 Enterprise or Standard Editions'?!?!? Will I be able to save my work, tables, etc.?!?!?
