I have been trying to figure this one out for a few weeks now with no luck so hopefully someone has hit this one before.

I have two different applications that use two different versions of pervasive. The servers are separate so there is no problem there, but I have computers that need to access both. One is running WGE 8.1 and does not seem to want to run anything else. The other will run WGE 8.7 but ships with 9.1 client.

If I try to run with the newer WGEs or clients, the first application does not function properly.

If I try to run with the older, the second throws errors like there is no tomorrow.

I have tried to find a middle version that both will run on but nothing in between works for both.

The first application is Timberline and the second is FOS. Timberline is an accounting program and FOS is a Flight Operations Software. Both are critical to our operations, and I need to have several of our accounting folks access FOS for accounting perposes.

I have tried installing to different directories with no luck. I've tried installing one over the other with no luck. I'm not quite sure if you can run two WGEs on one computer and I can't seem to get a response from pervasive, Timberline, or the vendor of the other program.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What errors are you seeing?
You really are going to need to talk to the vendors (Timblerline and FOS) to find out what they recommend. Pervasive probably won't be able to help. From their perspective an application developed against older version usually will run against a newer version. There are very few cases where an application won't run against a newer engine. Most problems are either configuration or application. One thing to be aware of though. In a client/server situation, you need to have a matched client and server. If PSQL v9.1 is running on the server, the client needs the v9.1 client. This is especially true for ODBC access.

Mirtheil,
Thanks for the reply.

For each application, if they were installed one per machine, they are matched client/server. I thought that regardless of versioning, something developed on an older version will usually run on a newer version too. However, for some reason, the program developed on the older version just will not run on the newer. After talking to vendors for weeks, they both say that they will only run on the platform that they recommend. Neither is willing or able to help me. I can get the older app to fire, but it starts throwing app related errors as soon as you try and do anything.

Anything tips for getting both versions of the client installed and functioning or any thing else you can think of?
