Two VPN's on two computers to same server: one connects, one does not.

I've Googled this issue and cannot find anything related to my situation, so I'm hoping someone here can help me.

Setup:
- Three PC's and laptop networked in my web design studio. The main PC and laptop both run WinXP Home, the other two PC's run Win98se.
- DI-604 router
- Cable Modem (Motorola)

On my main PC, the VPN connection that I have been using for a couple of years has decided to not connect to the remote server anymore. I am in Canada, the remote server is in Florida. On my laptop I have a VPN to the same remote server in Florida, and that one works just fine.

I don't run both VPN's at the same time.

I am wondering what could cause the VPN to not connect on one machine but it will not on the other? I have made no significant changes to the main PC that should cause this issue. I did test some semi-suspicious software on both the main PC and laptop a few days ago; ended up with some low risk malware that I snuffed out with Ad-Aware. But if that was the cause of the VPN failure, then it would have effected both machines, correct? As it is, the laptop VPN is fine, and the main PC is not.

Any ideas? If I have left out some pertinent information, please let me know so I can supply it.

Sorry to be replying to my own post, but I mis-phrased a part of my original.

This line (with the error underscored):

should read (correction in bold):
