I reinstalled XP Pro and probably missed a step, for now it asks me which version I want to run everytime I boot up. Also, "my documents and settings" could not be transfer due to the lack of space and now I can't access them from the new version; not even in Safe Mode.

Does anyone knows how can I get reid of one of the versions?; ideally the old version (slow) but being able to transfer "my document and settings" to the new one.

Any advise will be greatly appreciated.

TIA,

LeoF.

You should be able to boot into the "old" version and backup your documents, then boot into the "new" version and replace them.

Delete your old version Windows folder. Delete any third party Programs from Program Files that were not installed by, or are part of your new Windows installation.

Remove the line from Boot.ini (hidden and System file) which is offering the old Windows as a boot option. See "Removing an Operating System" from this article.

To copy your userfolders from the old installation it may be necessary to take ownership of them.

There is always the option to reformat and clean install XP after saving your important data.

If your running out of disk space by having an extra installation of Windows (less than 2GB), it might be an idea to install a larger or second hard drive.
