Hello I am using Novell Netware 6, server version 5.6
and nds version 10110.20

I have two different servers with two different trees, servers
are both on the same subnet, when I open up Console One
I am not able to see the other tree, for example in Console One login informaiton where you specify tree, context and a server I am only seeing unformtaion for server and tree a, where I want to see trees A and B and servers A and B, how do I get
console one login informaiotn to find the other server on the network ?

Many thanks in advance for all your responses.

Can you ping both servers by IP address???

If so, do a SEARCH (START SEARCH) in Windows. Search for a COMPUTER and type in the IP address of the server in question (not the name or tree).

If it finds it, double click on it and it should prompt you to login. If you can login, then the server is "functional" in terms of NDS and IP binding. After you login to it, see if you can see it in ConsoleOne.

I'd look into SLP (Service Location Protocol) not being set up correctly on the server that is playing hard to get. Maybe you changed IP addresses on it and you didn't change that info in the SLP configuration. So, it would not be "broadcasting" its presence on your network.

If you are authenticated to both trees, it will show both in ConsoleOne without having to do anything special. Best way to accomplish is to make sure you have a drive mapped to both servers before running consoleone.

Hello, thank you for all your advices, but it turns out I have two servers and two trees. I can ping the first server from my windows workstation whihc has Novell Client for windows running, and I can see server A and tree A in novell login screen, but I am unable to ping or reach server B and tree B from my cleint.

With the help of nwconfig utility I set-up all the boards, protocols and bindings, snmp and dns information for server B and I configured its network settings wiht information I got from server A (because I can reach A successfully), however...I still cannot ping or reach server B from my workstation, what am I missing ?

I misread your original post, I thought you said you could see both from your workstation..

If you can't even ping it, then something physically is wrong with your configuration or cabling or whatever.. You should be able to type "CONFIG" at the command prompt on the server and it should show you a significant amount of information about the network bindings, including IP address, submask, etc. If you don't get this information, it's not configured.

Actually I did that (config) and i compared two servers settings line for line and both are usng the same protocol (ARP) and frame type (ethernet_ii), both are on the same subnet.

I DID restart my server after I configured network board, not just reinitialized-restarted

When you compared them line by line.. what config file are you referring to? The Autoexec.ncf or the config inside of INETCFG?

In INETCFG, You should go to the "View Configuration" menu option, then ALL INETCFG Commands. Compare that with your working server.

you know what, i am very new to Novell, I don't even know what it was, i just typed config at the command prompt and saw a bunch of network adapters listed, so i compared the ones that had ip addresses configured, but I'll do what you suggested.

Thank you very much for the suggestions and I apologize if i sound silly, I don't know Novell very well.

Just cause there is an adapter listed on "CONFIG", does not mean it's setup correctly. Need to check and compare the actual load configs, which is in INETCFG.

Also, from the server console itself, you can do some troubleshooting.

PING
IPTRACE

Two good tools you can use to determine outbound communication.

Also, in Monitor, under LAN/WAN.. There is a Packets IN and Packets Out. You can make some good assumptions as to what is happening from that. For example, if packets out is going, but nothing in... might be a cabling issue.

Yeah, you have to be able to ping the server from the workstation and vice versa if you're going to have connectivity. If you're sure that NWCONFIG IP settings are correct, start looking at a bad network card or bad cabling.

Anything is possible. Maybe you should copy and paste your INETCFG View Information screens from both the working and non-working servers so we can check it out. You can post it somewhere else by taking a picture of the screen if you have to.

Next step - seek professional help rather than fiddling with it for weeks. I guess it depends on how much you need to access that second server!!!

Hello, thank you for all your advice, I ran ping command and i can ping the gateway server but i am not getting any
replies back. i think it's because gateway needs to know about my new server and its IP has to be entered in some table somewhere on a gateway. Continue investigating...

Thank you very much for your responses, the mystery has been solved, I can see my second server on-line now. :)

Have a good week-end.
