I would like to set up my Windows XP system to allow two monitors, two keyboards, two mice, and one PC - so that they can be used at the same time. I want to be able to use my monitor, keyboard, and mouse and the same time that my wife is using hers, with both connected to one PC. I've read that it's possible, but I don't have a good feeling for what the best solution is (hardware or software or both) and if it really does work. Does anoyne out there have this setup? Thanks.

afik the same time is not possible, the reverse kvm switches mostly uses hotkeys to switch btw. pc´s. it might work with a multiplexer (with a buffer) that switches x times a sec. between the two pc´s but i havent seen anything like that.

therip,

Windows XP licensing only allows one concurrent user at the system console, so you won't be able to have separate login sessions running separate applications, even if you do get two sets of screen, keyboard and mouse connected simultanously.

The only way you could do that is to get a cheap low spec second PC and network them together, then switch to an MS server operating system and use the Terminal Services feature or use a non Microsoft operating system which supports this facility.

You can use one computer with two people with Windows XP Pro. It requires a special motherboard and chip set that allows 2 users to use the computer at the same time.

jrbarnet, why would you suggest getting a cheap low end computer, and then putting Windows Server on the main computer and enabling Terminal Services? This makes absolutely no sense. It would be MUCH cheaper just to buy a cheaper 2nd decent computer that It would be to buy any Microsoft Windows Server software. And much easier to manage too.

J741,

Be nice to jbarnett, he tried (with a straight face) to answer the question in a professional and honest fashion.

The answer to the question: No, you cannot do this. Not only does your EULA not permit this, but the XP native software does not provide the means to do what you requested.

Are there "thin" client possiblities under XP? Yes there are. But the Citrix and other possibilities are decidedly not included in the native XP installation.

The best answer to your question is: No.
The best resolution to your problem is to buy a second PC using XP and network them with cross-over cables.

Best,
Bill Castner
