Good morning all,

I've been stalking the forum for quite a while now and found loads of useful information so far, so thank you everyone :)
I decided to join today as I'd like to ask some assistance with an issue I'm having with a Mitel system.

I have two PSTN lines coming in on one port on my Mitel via one cable. I've tested the cable with a normal phone and I can receive two calls at the same time and switch between the two, so I know that's working as intended, which led me to believe I have a configuration issue on the phone system.

The line is now plugged into a port on the Mitel, I have a hunt group ringing correctly on 3 extensions, but when the second line is called the trunk comes up as busy on both inbound and outbound calls, effectively allowing only one call at a time to be made/received. I've gone through all the options and tried to search for an answer online but couldn't really fathom what I'm doing wrong.
The SP is bouncing the call between the two numbers when one is in use. I've tried setting the other extensions as a call rerouting when busy, but didn't work and tried changing the hunt group extension to a multicall (it was a key system group), but again no difference.

It's the first time I'm using a Mitel system, so I'm at a bit of a loss, so any clue would be greatly appreciated :)

Thanks all!

Giacomo

IIUIC you are trying to get two calls in on one port. I assume this is like having two numbers on one line....I somehow doubt that the Mitel will recognise due to the hunt group configuration as the extension in the hunt group will have busied out the line and the Mitel has no way of knowing that another line is present (although the extension with the line seized shoukd be able to use the feature on THAT extension). I cannot foresee any way you are going to get this to work.

I'm thinking that these 2 come in and a flash is needed to connect the other while putting the current on hold at the co. Not going to make 2 calls out on a single line.

Good morning all,

Thank you for your prompt responses.

I'll try and clarify :)

I have two lines delivered in a terminal box in the premises, due to cabling constraints, our electrician extended both lines via a single CAT5 up to the phone system. Instead of having a single pair in the RJ11 connector at the end of the cable, I have two pairs. The two lines have different numbers and are for all intents and purposes two separate POTs .

I had two analogue phones on site connected between each other, so I delivered the CAT5 cable (carrying both lines) into the first phone and rang it. Picked it up, left there and initiated a second call. The SP detecting that the primary line is busy, bounced it to the second line and the phone indication of line 2 started flashing. Picked it up from the second phone and was able to communicate on both lines at the same time. This also applied when making outbound calls.

The same CAT5 I moved to the Mitel, expecting a similar behaviour with a correct configuration, but after initiating the first call, the trunk gets busy and I can't connect the second call.
I had the feeling (similarly to what Wireman50 pointed out) that I might not be able to achieve this as I can only associate one trunk to one port, but as I mentioned I come from a network background, so I don't know if I'm saying something silly. :)

Thanks!

Even from your explanation I would ask this; Are the two 'lines' delivered at the terminal block at the edge on one pair or two? Was it sold as a small Centrex type setup? You can only associate one trunk to one port. The Mitel is only set up to handle one trunk on one port and when that port is in use it will be busy.

Hey Wireman50,

The two lines are delivered with one pair each. Essentially I have the terminal block with 4 "small cables" coming out of it and joining into one single RJ11/12 connector, therefore occupying all 4 positions in the connector.

From both your replies I'm more and more convinced that you are 100% right and this cannot be achieved with this setup...

Thanks!

Giacomo

You just need to split the RJ11 in two rj11's (at the 3300 end) and use two ports on the mitel. Then point each port at the hunt group as their answer point.

Looks like the electrician sent these two in an rj14 configuration. As mentioned you will need to change it to two rj11. I don't know your skill level or what tools you possess, but it isn't hard to fix.

Thank you all for your kind answers! I'll follow your advice and split into two.

Thanks! :)
