I share a single phone with a colleague, and as of right now there is only one extension (his) that rings to the phone. Up until now I have been giving my contacts his extension so they can reach me, but it is confusing when they hear his VM message.

I would like to create another extension/VM for myself, but is there a way to have both extensions ring to the same phone?

The phone is a Nortel T7316, and I have admin access.

Thank you!

Add an Answer DN under the Line Assignment. It will allow ringing and answering of another DN and will take up a button on phone.

Actually you need a device with colleages extension to have a answer DN work
Also that answer does nothing for vm issue

What rel is software
U could use a HG for your ext with 1 phone assigned as long as no lines appear/ring on set
Have HG overflow to vm box that would be yours.
So 1 set would have 2 people and what works as 2 vm boxes.

Pretty much retired from telecom and now grow and sell perennials from April-November and Ski from Nov-April

This is how you do 2 people on one phone.
By design you have 1 person per phone so these are cheats or workarounds based on other options available.
You must use a spare port on the phone system for the 2nd person, it does not need a device or phone plugged in.

1st person has their phone with their ext
1st person has their mailbox send message signal to display when message left
2nd person has their ext as a button on above phone
2nd person has their mailbox call them on the button when message is left.

-Lets assume his DN/EXT is 200
-Pick an unused port on the system and get the DN # (lets pretend its 300)
-Go to Sets/200/LineAccess/AnswerDN and add 300 as Appear&Ring
-Go to Sets/200/Capabilities/ForwardNoAnswer/ to voice mails DN and 4 rings.
-Go to Sets/300/Capabilities/ForwardNoAnswer/ to voice mails DN and 3 rings.
It is important that the ring count for Forward No Answer is per above where 200 is higher at 3 than 300's ring count at 4.
-Create and/or edit mailbox 300, for Ext: entry enter 300 so looks like Ext:300.
-Once mailbox is initialized go into ADMIN/8 then Admin and setup it to call Ext 300, the hours to be notified.

When a call come is it will look like XXX>300 (300 equals 2nd person) and it will go to mailbox 300 after 3 rings.
When a message is left for 300 then vmail will call 300, looks like 500>300 (500 =vmail and 300 equals 2nd person), when you answer the call you will be prompted to press 1 then enter your password.

Really? It seems like if you have two extensions/VM set up, then the caller will be forwarded to the VM of the respective extension. Also, accessing any VM from any set is not problem, either. Or are you saying that when answer DN is set, the call is transferred to the other extension?

The software rel is 01.

HG = Hunt Groups? I'll have to check it out.

Another option I thought would be easy would just to use call forwarding. ie forward my calls to the phone (extension) at the desk. However, the problem I see with that is that there is not a physical set with my extension to program the forwarding... Otherwise it would be a piece of cake.

We posted same time, see my post above.

Also to add...
To check for messages in morning etc
F981
OTHER (or * on smaller phone)
Log will be your ext and password together then OK or #

Not yet, thanks for explaining how to do it, though. I've been put in charge of maintaining the phone system in our office, and while I am able to navigate the menus and do the basic stuff involving VM, I am still unfamiliar with some of the terms and features. I have some learning to do.

Curlycord, I just finished going through your step by step and I got it working!

Now, my only complaint is that when someone calls me, I do not see the caller ID, just the XXX>300 like you said above. I suppose there is no way to show the caller ID, is there?

Thanks for the help!

FEATURE 811 works when the phone is ringing. Also, when the receiver is picked up, the caller ID shows up, too (without FEATURE 811)

Thanks for the help!
