All,
First off, thanks in advance for any help, and appropriate direction if I am posting in the wrong forum/category.
I have a customer with an older TVS75 VPS in which the hard drive literally smoked. I happened to have an old IDE drive kicking around (original was a 300M and 'new one' is a 30G). I get serial communication now, but with the error: DISK ERROR : Program Sum Error !! . I assume this is because the 'new drive' is probably too large to recognize at worst, or is just the wrong file structure at best.
I am also assuming that there has to be SOME sort of system software loaded onto the 'new drive'. Now, I see refurbished replacement drives advertised "with all the software already installed" for around $140.
I am well aware of the process of cloning these drives as a backup, but being as in this case, the drive is dead dead dead, I would need to start from scratch.
Before I advise a $140 expenditure, I ask the forum:
1> Is there a way to use a newer larger drive, and partition it out in a certain structure?
and
2> If above is possible, where might I look for the needed software to be put on it?
I have done what I feel is a thorough search of the interwebs to no avail, which is why I posted here! Again, I thank you in advance for any help or suggestions offered!
