A user, we'll say her name is Jane Smith-Jones, would like to be searchable in the TVA dial-by-name directory under both Smith and Jones. Does anyone know of a way to do this? Their old Innovator voice mail (on their DBS) had a "Search names" field, for common misspellings and alternate spellings, etc.

colud you create a dummy user forward that unconditionally to the first user but obviously name them separatly in the vm

ACSS (SME)

A dummy ext would work, but if the call was not answered it would go to dummy ext mailbox or aa if it did not have one.
Other than that I can't see anything else

could you then auto forward that voicemail of the dummy user to the correct extn.

Or you could turn on both last and first name ability and put one last name in the first name spot and put the other in the last name spot.

you can, but the shortest time is 10 min before it will transfer, if you had a spare button you could have a message lamp for dummy extension

dalavar01,that had crossed my mind, but does the system ask when selecting dial by name for first or last name to look for?

Thanks everyone. It's one of those situations where the tight integration of the two systems results in some inflexibility. Ah, the things I could do with an old 576 and a third-party, analog-integrated voice mail. First and last name dialing is turned on currently, but I don't want their callers to lose the ability to dial this user by her first name either. I may just have her set up that second mailbox for her "other" last name. They already use voice mail to email so there won't be any delay in her getting the message. Does anyone know how to make a request to Panasonic for a feature enhancement? Hyphenated names are now quite common, I think I have at least two at each of my customers. Hasn't been an issue until now.

When both first and last names are turned on the prompt says please enter the first 4 letters of the persons first or last name. You could always modify the prompt to say what ever you wanted to.

The other way would be to use the list names option. Not really tried it myself but its supposed to play the list of names recorded in the owners name part of their mailbox. I assume it says joe blow press 1 jane doe press 2.

Hmm couldn't figure out how to edit my post. Think I messed up that last part. Since it list names I imagine it asks you to press something when you hear the name you want. Like I said I've never turned it on and tried it yet. But I know other systems that work that way.
