Hi,

I am having trouble with my TV Tuner card. It worked perfectly fine for about 2 years. About a month ago, it just stopped working.
I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it, but I think I installed some kind of Microsoft Automatic Update the day before. This might not be of any influence on the problem, I don't know.

When I open up device manager, the TV Tuner is right there under Video, Sound, ... -devices. When I uninstall it there and then reboot my pc, it automatically detects and installs it. So the pc still knows it's there.
BUt when I try to open up Powercinema (the program I used to watch TV with), I get an error 'No TV Tuner detected', and I get a 'grey snow'-screen.
I thought it might be a problem with powercinema, but reinstalling the program had no effect.
I then downloaded ChrisTV Lite, but here I get no picture either. When I go into the Program Settings here, and then Driver Settings, the area to choose the TV Tuner is greyed out. So this can't find it either.

Another strange thing is that when I used to start up my pc, the picture on my TV would be a bit scrambled. This probably had something to do with a disturbance in the connection, because if I just opened op Powercinema on the PC, the picture on my TV would go back to normal.
It still does that now, so the connection between my PC and TV seems to be there as well.

I hope someone recognizes this and is able to help me. Else my only resort would be a full format and reinstall of Windows and I really don't want to do that at the moment.

Thanks in advance!

Try it in safe mode. Maybe the windows firewall is blocking it from accessing the internet?

I would try updating the TV TUNER Driver and see if that alleviates the problem...

MS06-001, MS06-005/006 could be affecting the playback... Also I would suggest updating DirectX 9.0C to the latest...

TV Tuners usually get bound into the system as a Network Device (at least in my system it did)...

I allready have the latest driver for this TV Tuner installed, so that is not a problem.

I also have DirectX 9.0c

What did you mean with your last sentence:
"TV Tuners usually get bound into the system as a Network Device (at least in my system it did)..." ?

Thanks for the assistance

@Flavioooo - about DirectX 9.0c, make sure that it is the latest version... I had some issues with pre AUG 2005 release of 9.0c, that is why I had mentioned it...

about that last statement and integration as a Network Device, see the Picture of my Firewall:
As you can see it is highlighted as a Network Connection, meaning that what dglienna mentioned should be checked... reason is that most TV Tuner software checks for the IP adress of the device to make a connection, if that IP is covered/blocked they tend to state that no TV card is installed...

to check this, turn off the FIREWALL that you have installed (just do not be on the Internet when you do this... LOL)... and see if it is the Firewall blocking the connection...

Hey,

I was getting a lot of trouble with my pc the last 2 days. Everything was getting slower, and since yesterday I got spyware messages (gator.exe...)

So today I started with a fullscale anti-spyware/virus attack, using Ad-Aware, Anti-Malware, Hijack This and Spybot Search & Destroy to completely scan and repair my pc.

A lot of spyware was found and removed, and all of a sudden... my TV Tuner worked as well!!

Thanks for all your help guys. I'm off to watch some television now ;-)

All the programs you list are spyware programs, I don't see any anti-virus software. You need that too.

The answer has always been 42

@Flaviooo, see this confirms the fact that the TV Tuner cards are treated as Network Devices, since the MALWARE had blocked the IP's or messed with the LSP's...

as Franklin mentioned run an AntiVirus proggy aswell and may I suggest, EWIDO ( too...

also, with no internet connection nor Browser window open, issue this command in a run box (Start - RUN) or CLI:

netsh winsock reset catalog

this will reset your LSP's back to standard, and does the same as the Programm IEFIX ...

besides that I am glad that you have it up and running...

Hi Flav.

I had this exact same problem last night.

I have a ATI Theater 550 tuner card , Did the exact same symptoms you described , Worked fine before , Then one day nothing.

I re-seated the card , It worked fine from there. I think with the coax connectors , when threading the connector on it was enough movement to slightly un-seat the card from the bus slot.

Hope this helps!
