I hooked up my laptop to my tv using an s-video cable. The tv shows ONLY the wall paper. If I move an icon or just the cursor to the right... all the way off screen it will appear on the t.v as if it is sitting to the right of my laptop. How do I get what I see on my computer monitor to appear the same way on my tv?

on the display setting, there should be a button that will allow you to use CLONE as the method to use two monitors...

if not, then tell us what graphics hardware is installed, and if the control program for the graphics hardware is installed, e.g. for AMD/ATI the Catalyst Control Center. Usually you can find the correct settings there...

Only ask questions with yes/no answers if you want "yes" or "no"

Sounds like you extended your desktop to the TV, rather than cloning it.

Laptops usually have a key combination (fn + F5 usually) to send the image to the external source. Perhaps toggling a couple times may scroll through the options.

If not then like Ben says try your Video Card's Control Panel.

Or tell us what video card you have, so we may guide you through the steps.

Thanks guys. I've been out of town for a few days and will tinker with this pdq. Maybe I'll even break down and purchase an HDTV so I can actually see what's being displayed.

The type of TV will not make a difference until you set the output to clone.

Even if its an HDTV it will still show the extended desktop, rather than a copy of it. You need to set it up first on the computer to clone or copy.
