Is it possible to turn off/configure System restore in Windows ME? The restore files are hogging over 1/2 of my harddrive space. Short of buying a new harddrive - is there a way I can either turn of System Restore or change the way it works?

If you rename the Windows\Sysbckup-folder,scanreg will
run in "fix-mode". See Microsoft KB Q183887 and
KB 183603 for information on scanreg.ini.
Max. no of backups can also be set.

If you go KB article Q264887 it tells you the details.

Basically, My Computer/Properties -
Performance/File System/Troubleshooting

There is a tickbox to turn it on or off.

They suggest you leave it on, but they would :)

I suggest Norton Ghost as the most useful thing to restore from.
