Hello to all,

I was thinking of turning some pc's into thin clients at a school , and would like them to boot from the hdd, get their ip address from a dhcp server and then start up rdesktop onto a win2k terminal server.

I've tried using PXES linux ( but overkill for what I want and too hard to setup.

Thin Station( looked promising but I don't have access to Linux at my work.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can accomplish this?

Thanks in advance.

What OS is already installed on those old PCs? If you already have windows on them, why not just install the Terminal Services Client. You can create them from the w2k-ts box. Lot less hassel.

What software are you sharing out on the Terminal Server? If you have OSS alternatives for the software on your TS, why not install Linux on your TS then you can have remote X sessions with linux clients. A remote X session is easy to do and no additional software or configuration required.

If you have DOS on them, there are DOSRDP clients on the net, and they have a small cost to them.

You can install the Micrsoft Networks for DOS and get IP address etc automatically and then run the RDP client.

Cheers,
Carl.
