TSM server vs. client backup

Preface:
I've been trying to get Mgmt to allow me to upgrade the server and TSM for 2 years now, BUT... they haven't yet, But maybe next month.

ISSUE:
I have a AIX 4.3 TSM 5.1 server and windows 5.2 clients. When I run the incr from the client dsmc the exlcude.dir (expl: exclude.dir "*:\...\McAfee) is read and it's excluded but when the schedule on the server touches it, it doesn't read these and they are backed up. I've been stating to mgmt that it's the down level server vs. client but the TSM books state that a 5.2, 5.3 client can be backed up on a 5.1 server. So they think it's something else that I've missed in configuration.
Any ideas?

Is there any chance that the client option on the tsm server is overriding the exclude for that node? I'd be interested to see the clopt to which that node belongs.

And yes.. management should allow you to upgrade since SOO many things have been fixed since tsm 5.1, not to mention the fact that it is WAYYYYYYY out of suppport...

So get the clopt the node is using - q node <nodename> f=d
and look for client option set

then check/post the clopt itself - q clopt <cloptname> f=d

Hmm.. too bad.. that would have been the easy answer. The other thing you can try is adding a couple more excludes:

exclude "*:\...\McAfee\*"
exclude ""*:\...\McAfee\...\*"

Aside from that, not sure why there would be a different behavior unless the scheduler on the client is pointing to a different dsm.opt file?

Here is the inclexcl from the opt file:

...When I run the incr from the client dsmc the exlcude.dir (expl: exclude.dir "*:\...\McAfee) is read and it's excluded but when the schedule on the server touches it..."

It sounds like we forgot to stop/restart the schedule service when the dsm.opt file was updated.

When there are any updates made in the dsm.opt file, the schedule service need to be stop and restarted so that the new updates are read into memory.

Good Luck,
Sias
