We currently run TSM 5.3 Storage Manager on AIX 5.3. TSM backs up to a 3583 tape library, however, my manager would like to research backing up to disk instead. That is, the data would be written to some type of disk subsystem and then copied through the network to a similar disk subsystem in another location. Does anyone know if there are solutions out for this type of application?

Thanks,

Shane

Look into the EMC CDL disk library. It can replicate for location to location

There are lots of ways of doing this, using IBM FlashCopy or just using TSM, or a combination of the two. You haven't provided enough detail for me to be more specific, but that should give you a start. Talk to your TSM supplier.

Regards.

We're currently moving to a disk-to-disk system from Data Domain. We currently have a virtual tape environment that goes to a small disk pool which spins off to tape. We're now going to do completely without virtual tapes and physical tapes by using Data Domain. All data will be held on disk arrays which then replicate offsite. It's basically like backing up to NFS mounts. Very simple stuff. It also includes amazing compression and deduplication.
