Trying to retrieve Merlin Legend voicemail from outside

I've read through the related posts and can't quite grasp how to put this together.

Currently, we have extension 770 setup for voicemail that works fine internally. I would like to have our estimators be able to check their voicemail from the road.

My understanding is to set up a "Group call"? We have a rarely used phone number, but it is part of our rollover group.

I guess my question is how do I remove the number from the rollover group and assign it to voicemail?

It should be noted I have very limited documentation available and do not have a computer hooked up to the phone system. So, whatever needs to be done has to be done from the main console.

Thanks for your assistance

Your telephone company controls the "rollover", so contact them to have it removed from the Incoming Hunt Group.

Once it is a standalone line, remove it from the pool it is assigned to, and then assign it to the Voice Mail Calling Group (770).

When you call that number, the Automated Attendant will answer, and you will dial *7 to log into voicemail.

You're going to need to know which trunk port the line is connected to, and figure out which pool it is assigned to before you can proceed.

Thanks Tommy,

After calling the phone company I was able to determine the line I thought was in the hunt group actually wasn't. Instead it was an RCF line which will not work for what I'm looking for.

However, after some investigation I was able to locate an old fax line that is no longer in use. It is a standalone line.

I guess I still need to figure out which trunk port this line is attached to? How does one do this? Am I correct in assuming that since it is a standalone line that is not currently part of an existing pool?

Jerry

Is the fax line actually connected to the phone system, and the fax machine was a single station?

Probably, the fax line went directly to the fax machine.

Therefore, you would just plug the fax line into an available line port on the Legend, and if you give us a list (or a picture) of the control unit, we can tell you which line it is.

Then it is as simple as programming the line to ring to the voice mail calling group.

Just follow the wire pair from the TELCO block. It should be labelled. If not and you don't have a butt set you'll need something like a multimeter to test the current change on the T/R pair when you call in or out. PITA I know without phone tools. Analog trunks on the Legend are counted leftmost to rightmost and from the bottom up. They start at 801. So if it is in the 9th port it would be line number 809. Do you have 408 or 800 modules? Then you check pool membership under system programming and examine the members.

Ok, I've managed to locate the terminal on the telco block and tested it to an analog phone and it seems to work okay.

I then took the line and have run it to the Merlin line 829 and tried to assign the line to voicemail, but when I call the number it just rings.

I noticed that in an earlier message I should see what pool 829 is assigned to and release it? Is this necessary and how do I do it?

Thanks.

Sorry,

I misread the legend box and did not have the line plugged into 829.

I do now and instead of not getting an answer I'm receiving a busy signal.

Does it matter what type of line i'm running to the legend.

My brother gave me an adapter that fits onto the telco block and allows for a standard line jack connection. From this I just ran a legend coiled handset cord to the merlin box since it was the only phone cord I had.

I also have the original phone line connected at the telco block if that matters.

I have a Merlin Legend with the Auto Attendant running and users call in using any line. They hit the Auto Attendant and then *7. The system prompts for the mailbox and when a valid mailbox is entered you're presented with a password request.

Maybe I don't have auto attendant running? Is there a setting for this?
