trying to repair ie 6.0

I am trying to repair ie 6.0.2900.2180.

start run sfc/scannow does not work.

start run %systemroot%\inf does not have the ie.inf file to reinstall.

I do not want to install ie 7 .

any ideas to repair or reinstall?


i am running xp pro 2002 sp2

I had this problem a few months ago and I solved it by this:

1) create backup of your registry

2)
[Start] [Run] [Regedit]
Registry Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\{89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4383}
Modify/Create the Value Data Type(s) and Value Name(s) as detailed below.
Data Type: DWORD // Value Name: IsInstalled
Setting for Value Data: [Change the Value from 1 to 0]
Exit Registry

Than is possible run IE6 installer.

You're missing a space in the System File Checker command:
sfc /scannow

Also consider the IEFix utility:
