Hi guys.

I've bought myself a book to try and learn PHP, MySQL & Apache. So far I'm getting nowhere, except for frustrated.

I've installed apache, and configured the conf file in accordance with the instructions in the book. That all seems ok. BUT, I can't seem to start Apache at all...

In the Apache Services Monitor, the "start", "stop" and "restart" buttons are not available (they're there, but greyed out and not clickable). I've attempted to start it from the dos prompt, by entering the "apache -k start" command, but I get the following error message:

[error] (720002)The system cannot find the file specified. : No installed service named "Apache2".

I tried doing a "apache -k runservice" after browsing this forum for a while, but that didn't help.

Sorry if this is a stupid question but I'm absolutely stumped and the book is useless.

Cheers

What platform are you trying to run it on? Windows, a Linux distro, maybe a BSD? The operating system you are using will affect how you start the server. --

Windows2000.

Sorry, I thought I'd mentioned that in there.
