This is my dilema. I have picked out a name for my technology business, but am scared the name will be bad business. The name is ezFix.biz. The only thing I am scared of, is that my customers with pronounce it just how it looks (Ezfix), and not how I want it to sound (EasyFix).

My graphic's on my web page seperate the E and the Z from each other, and from the fix.biz.

Is this going to cause any issues? If you looked at ezFix.biz, and didn't think the ez was pronounced easy, please let me know...

Thanks

I must admit I thought it was not easyfix the first time. Have you thought of e-zFix?

Personally, I won't trust ANY company that can not correctly spell their name. Nothing personal against you or your company, but things like "E-Z" or "Money 4 You" or "Things 2 Buy" have always struck me as being...well..."shady". Like I said, it's just my personal opinion, but whenever I see stuff like that I always picture a cheap used car salesman in a leopard print leasure suite running the business. (-:

After reading my previous post, I want to make a clarification. I was in no way trying to attack or make fun of your business, I meant no offense by it. And to answer your original question, when I saw the name, I though of "easyfix".

Just a thought but the name ezFix (easyfix) implies things are easy to fix therefore people could do it themselves or it will not cost a lot of money for it to be done. It may just be a perception but is that how you want to market your business?

Ok, thank you for your valuable input. I have since been thinking of other names, and have had a hard time, since I want to choose one that describes the type of business it is, and is also a non-registered domainname.

What do you think of PCFixed.org?

Any other suggestions of a name would be very helpful...

(I am also thinking of integrating this with a software development company I have also started... The first one is a PC Repair business. Should I keep the 2 names separate, or try to keep them both the same?)

It would probably easier to keep them under one name. If you're wanting to get into different aspects of the IT industry (repair, software development, etc...), you may want to look into something kind of generic (but technical sounding) like "Whatever Technologies" or "Something Services".

Alternatively go for a name which does not have a specific meaning. Just make it rememberible (sp?).

What is the saying "A rose by any other name would still smell as sweet"

It's not just in the name. Provide a good service and it doesn't matter what your business is called.

I thought of easyfix first time I read it. Different school of thought on business names, based on what people think. I went with Johnson Computer Consulting because it didn't limit me to what kind of computer work, but I still thought it sounded professional. Good luck.

A company name is one of the most important decisions you will make. It is the brand that you wear on everything you do. Spend some time coming up with the right one.

Trendy things like Star Trek characters, Sci Fi words or planets date very quickly. Also avoid abbreviations that no-one understands (IBM is an exception to this).

Glen is on the right track with his Johnson Computer Consulting. Using a real name shows real people who are prepared to stand behind it. Think Dell and Hewlett Packard here.

When we looked for our company name we just looked down then hill from our home/office. There is a little bay on the Waitemata harbour called "Chelsea Bay". It only has foot access. We then added the "Technologies" as we thought we could do network support, consulting, software development and training. Now we realize we can't do it all, the name "Chelsea Technologies" is still appropriate.

Hi,
Many people pronounce "Z" as "Zee" and many as "Ezed"
So the for the first group your company name will be "EazyFix" and for the second "EaZedFix".
If you are sticking on the name then try "eziiFix" or "eziFix". Something like "ASCII". Again ASCII is familiar to those are more used to programming.

Glen,

Have you found much of a market for Office training? I'm thinking of incorporating this into my business. I noticed it on your website.

To many companies around here offer it. Even at reduced prices, (Compared to others), I've only found a limited market. If you have a smaller market, it is worth looking into. We have a population of over 150,000 in the local town with several smaller towns around us. Good luck.

I have the same issue, I am starting my own business in Consulting & every name I have come up w/sounds bad or does not click w/me. But I have found a software thats called Razor & it will produce a bunch of names by the info you put in & it's only 20$.
My business name was going to be Net-Secure Consul-team, a team of network & security consultants from basic PCs to entire Networks from the ground up.
So if you are good at what you do I'm looking for people all over.
Let me know what you think.

I've found some good names (used as project names) by looking at maps.

Not sure the average joe would get it. Of course, you may not be after the average joe.

I'm in the same dilema....been running my own consulting firm for about 3 years, but looking to really take off and put more time into it. Current name is Coastal Networks Inc. (because I live in a coastal community), but I really like the idea that was suggested of putting a name in the business. I would stay away from Easy or EZ. Look in the phone book and see what other businesses start with that name or phrase....what is your initial reaction to them? (EZ-car rental vs. Hertz or Avis, for example).

Don't use any phonetic phrases. They will be misspellt or mispronounced a lot. There goes your branding into the ether. Ez Consulting is only valid if your name is Emilio Zappa.

Use a real name, or take a word from an unrelated field and appy an IT edge to it. Razor Consulting sounds like a sharp name to me.
