I create queries by using the web based Peoplesoft8 "Query Manager."

Is it possible to access the queries in Crystal 6.0 directly from the web based Peoplesoft8 "Query Manager" so that I can create a Crystal report? If yes then how it is done.

I have been downloading the query data into Excel, converting the data to Microsoft Access and then creating the Crystal report using Microsoft Access (I would like to avoid doing all of these steps to get the data into Crystal).

Thanks to anyone to can help me.

I would set up an ODBC data link from your PC to the PS DB. This way you can avoid PS8 web query all together. I am not a crystal expert, so maybe there are advantages to using query that I am not aware of.

This solution also assumes that you have the PS client on your PC and the pre-requisite skills to setup odbc. If this sounds plausible and you want more info, I will be happy to provide it.

Good luck,

Many ways of doing this. Why are you using Crystal 6 with PeopleSoft 8? I thought that Crystal 8 was shipped with version 8 of PeopleSoft.

Easiest thing. Install Crystal 8 for PeopleSoft. THis creates the ODBC called PeopleSoft PeopleTools. After you have created your Query, open the Crystal 8 application. Select new report, you will be prompted by a data explorer, select ODBC and then PeopleSoft PeopleTools. You will then be able to select your query and it's fields or even any tables directly. You can then create your Crystal program and attach it to whatever pages you want using Process Schedule Manager and Application Designer.

Otherwise, depending on what database you have you will need to get the ODBC specific for it, then install it on your local PC, then configure it. You will also need database specific access as it will not be controlled through PeopleSoft security. Then you can use whatever database application or reporting tool your wish by creating external applications. But you are getting more into customizations that will require specific controls and may be more complex during any future upgrades.

Thanks thatsit,

I'll have to find out if a newer version of Crystal did come with Peoplesoft 8 and when it will be put on my computer.
