Have an option 11 that has not been configured to my company's IP scheme. So I have tried to add a new host/route and each time I enter the info I get the following code.
SCH6579 Config: Update "1xx.x.x.xxx" "x.x.x.x1" failed.

NTP says ConfL error string - configuration error. Not exactly much help there.

Has anyone seen this code, and what is the work around?

If you have nothting at all on the elan other than the Callserver (PBX) then you can mess around with it... but

You cannot change an ACTIVE ELNK,

make a new one, then switch to it... or disable it then change it....

also you might want to try UPDATE DBS in ld 117, but if you have problems on the system, don't know if this will help at all....

The command is used to update other cabinets with the IP info but I beleive it writes the file also....

Can't add a new one, that is what I was trying to do. I have in the past created a seperate host/mask scheme, then switch to inactive one to be able to do it without ini'ing the switch.
There's nothing else attached to this switch besides an mdr. All other applications:mail, TM, symp, are at a centralized site. Tried the update as well the other day no change. I've only been at this employer a few months and am starting to realize why this was added to my to do list. :).
Thanks again

If the INET.DB is corrupted sometime resetting the ELNK in LD117 (using RST ELNK ACTIVE and do the same for the INACTIVE and MASK) and redo the ELNK info and updating the DBS will clean it up.

BUT, if the INET.DB file is missing, would need to verify via PDT, then no matter what you do...it will not work until the file has been recreated.

3 ways that I know of to recreated the file:

1. reinstall the software
2. copy from another system (similar to this 1) and place into yours via PDT
3. within PDT, create a file call INET.DB, go to LD 117 and reset all IP, elnk, mask, ptm, ppp and recreate and update.

Don't think I have ever done a rst elnk before, will it burp my switch?

rst elnk active or rst elnk inactive will reset the ip to 137.135.128.253 for the active and .254 for the inactive, and no it will not ini or sys your switch...or rather it should not ini or sys or switch

Thanks yytkroon, I will give it a whirl and post back.
Thanks again for all the posts thus far

It keeps getting uglier and uglier.

=> rst elnk active

No database file exists for Call Server/Main Cabinet
SCH6579 Config: Update "PRI
MARY_ENET" "137.135.128.253" failed.

=> rst elnk inactive

No database file exists for Call Server/Main Cabinet
SCH6579 Config: Update "SEC
ONDARY_ENET" "137.135.128.254" failed.

=>
Tried to change (add) new IP entries, got the same sch. Updated dbs, same thing. Below is what I have now
SURVIVABILITY AVAIL: 0 s USED: 0 TOT: 0
=> tat host
*** Active Internet Host Table ***
ID Hostname IP Address
-- localhost 127.0.0.1

=> stat route
*** Active Internet Routing Table ***
ID Destination Gateway Port
-- 127.0.0.1 127.0.0.1 -- [lo0]

=> prt elnk
ACTIVE ETHERNET: "PRIMARY_ENET" "137.135.128.253"
INACTIVE ETHERNET: "SECONDARY_ENET" "137.135.128.254"
OK
Getting just a tad more confusing..

I just noticed that the host you originally tried to add was PRIM. Can you try to add a host other than PRIM - like IPTESTHOST for instance?

I've tried a few differant name configurations, but I will give the name you suggested a try. Thanks

No luck there either. But thanks for the suggestion

pbxn...i had a problem a few months back it turned out
to be ssc card believe it or not i found this out by
rebooting the opt 11 and in the boot up process you
will see the ssc mac address mind was all zero's
replaced the card and was able to to program my
ip addresses.

no problems only solutions

I may give that a shot and see. That would be interesting if it was the card. Thanks for the post.

Well it looks at though I have bigger fish to fry with this switch. I was skimmng the hist file this morning, and saw an error related to edd. Something to the affect that it hasn't run. So logged into 43 and ran one. Below is all I got. Can any one say vendor time? Thanks again to all of those who posted.

Here's the update, and thanks again to all that posted.

The vendor is going to do a "dummy upgrade" and I believe replace the SSC card in the switch, due to the corruption/missing file issue.

Thanks again to all
