I have SBS 2003 and i jsut got a new EDM Sodick wire machine i'm having issues connecting to my traget computer. All it does is prompt for username and password over and over again

angel06,
I take it that you are trying to logon to SBS from the CNC machine CPU.

You did not state if you are providing a username & password when prompted and then it(SBS) re-prompts you for this information. I assume that you are.

Depending on what CAL implementation you have setup, you might have to setup the CNC as a device with a CAL. This is if the SBS & cal implementation is "per device" vs "per user".

Hope this helps

how do i setup this device as a CAL can u step me throught it?

Yes i type in my user name that i use for my PC on the Sodick it jsut keeps prompting me over and over again for the username and password.

angel106,

You first must assertain how/what method of access that was established for the SBS network.

Are you the Net Adminisatrator? If not contact them for this information.

As you cannot access using your account/pass I would venture to say that SBS is setup in perdevice/server mode. If this is the case, determine the number of devices allowed(# of CAL's Client Access License) that are installed on SBS. If this is say "5" and there are 5 devices logged on then SBS will not allow an additional logon. Powerdown one device to open that access portal and try to logon from the CNC again. If that is successful an additional CAL will have to be obtained for similtaneous use of all devices.

If you find that SBS is configured for peruser access, You need to insure that the CNC CPU is configured to see and is part of the Domain. To insure that this screen that you are presented with is not just for "Windows" logon.(are you able to get to the WindowsXX? desktop? & is the CNC using WinX? as an OS?)

Ok i don't think in my current situation that i would need anymore device CAL however what i was told by the guy that help me setup thi server was that:
To check and make sure that Microsoft File and Print Sharing is properly installed on the machine. Does this make any sense?

angel106,

You haven't said what system the CNC station is using?
And if WindowsXX if you able to get to the desktop or being stopped at the windows logon screen?

As you are on a full feldged Network (SBS 2003) I don't think that file&print sharing (peer to peer) should be required, but I am not familiar with the SODICK implementation.

The CNC station is using a windows 2000 OS the problem is that there is no way to access the internal computer. When i boot up i get the machine screen and then straight to whatever cutting option you can set the machine. I'm used to connecting and configuring conputer by doing the ///servername/connectcomputer but i can;t do this here cause i can't access the computer OS.

things ive already done
1) Gave it a computer name EDM1
2) Workgroup name lmicorporation
3)optain an IP addrress from the DHCP server.
4) i then ping computer in my network and get a response

5) Then i go into this option called seika net and input computer names and password on my network. then try and attempt to connect to then and still get the prompting for username and password. I side note when i go back to my personal terminal i map a new drive under my domain i see the system EDM1 and i can open its hard drive however i can;t do anything with it jsut look at it. ?????

angel106,

Again I am not familiar with the SODICK application, but if it runs over WIN2K and is not in the programming to lock itself, you should be able to access many WIN functions using shortcut keys i.e. "ctrl+esc" depressed at the same time should bring up the "Start Menu". If this works you can find a list at the link below:

Shortcut Keys

I have to ask, if you can not get to the desktop, how were you able to accomplish the list of items you presented?

You also stated that you established a name & password, have you tried entering this name and pass when asked for usernam & password?
