Trust Between forest

I am trying to set up a trust between two windows 2003 forest, I get an error (domain cannot be contacted). I put a entry in both host and lmhost file on both domain. What I need to do with DNS on both domain?

are you able to ping the DC's in each others domain?..

is the domain being picked up in network neighbour hood.

try using the domains FQDN name to set up the trusts

can ping from both side...I think, I can ping because of host and lmhost entries..
do I need to do anything with dns before setting up trust between forest?

thats what I am trying to do...help me out if I am doing some wrong.

try adding a new zone for the other domain and add the respective root dc as a host record

so I add zone on both domain (what zone I create Primary, secondary or AD)
I didnt get what you mean to say here (add the respective root dc as host record)

Here's what I did?
addes host and lmhost entries on both domain? do I need to do this? right now I can resolve name with this entries.

I addes dns server entries for zone transfer on each servet to allow transfer.

now what I need to do?
you told me to create zone? what zone I create and can you explain me what this is going to do?
