I have a question regarding trunk members. How does a connected port decide which trunk port it will be assigned?
I have 92 ports (4 pri's) and the 3rd pri connection is out of service. Fax lines are trying to use the out of service ports and they get timed out. Why are they choosing the out of service ports and how can I temp remove until Verizon fixes the issue.

Thanks.

busy out the out of service pri, some how the system is seeing this as out of service so a manual busy out should resolve this issue

Well, you say you have 92 - that's 23*4. So, if you list sig/list trunk, is it 1 sig group/trunk group with active/stdby D channel controlling all 4 DS1 cards, or is it 4 sig and 4 trunk each independent?

the answer affects your routing. So, 555-555-1234 in ARS would go to route 123 and route 123 maps to certain trunk groups. If all your channels are in 1 group, you shouldn't have a problem. if your trunks are in group 1/2/3/4 and 3's down and the faxes for whatever reason dial something to a route with only trunk 3, then that'd be your problem.

If you were to, in emulation - not GEDI, list trace station 1234 (if 1234 were a fax) and you'll see how CM handles the routing decision to pitch it out.

All members are in one group and one signaling group. There is only one D channel for controlling all 4 cards.

I am pretty sure it is a problem on the Verizon side, I replaced the DS1 card and still having an issue.

Did you busyout the bad pri yet and then retry the call?

I tried to busy out the card yesterday but still tried using a port from that group. When I tested the line with my but set it would eventually hit a working port, but the fax times out.

busy out the board then it will not try to use it so you did something wrong then.

I may have done something wrong, it would make sense for that to work. I am still trying to understand how a member gets assigned a trunk port.

kyle has already explained that to you in great detail
