This is probably ridiculously simple, but I thought I would check to see if there's a catch to watch out for.

Basically I want to change our outgoing line access number from 9 to 8 and I'm not sure exactly what all might be affected by the change.

Our equipment? A NEC NEAX 2000 being accessed by Matworx.

Why? Because the police are getting tired of coming out here everytime some fast finger dialer (not me) hits 911 by mistake.

Thanks for your time.

Go to MOC mode in you matworx.

1.Press F9 to start
2.dial 200 + F8
3.Dial 8 + F8
4.Dail A129 + F2

Test to see if you can dial out using 8
If that works go back into MOC mode

1.Press F9 to start
2.dial 200 + F8
3.dial 9 + F8
4.dial ccc + F2

Test you should not get anything when you dial 9

There are no problems at all with doing this. Follow the steps above and assign the same funtion to 8 as you currently have assigned to 9. The instructions above say to put "A129" to 8, but it could be anything from "A126" to 129.

Also, there is a built in feature of the 2000 to alert up to 2 stations when a user dials 911. It basically rings the phones and lights an "Emergency" key on their phones. The key will remain lit and you simply push the key to get more info. You can then find out who is dialing this and beat them with a stick.

Thanks dontworx and gmanatl! That appears to be exactly what I need. And I like the alert to 2 stations. I am definitly going to incorporate that. In fact I'm baffled as to why that feature wasn't enabled on the initial install.

On the specifics, I finally found the Numbering Plan Report. It looks like A126 is what 9 is currently pointing to so it makes sense to point 8 to the same code. Also 80 and 81 are current codes, I believe I need to change these as well. The whole 7 range is unused so I'll grab 70 and 71.

Once again thanks for the help.

Matt
