every time i try to print a document out i get the message CANNOT COMMUNICATE WITH PRINTER. the printer is a lexmark Z22model using a USB connection. could the USB lead be the problem? The drivers are installed and the properties say the printer is working fine!!! Can anyone help?

Please don't take offense to the following questions, they are for troubleshooting only. Just some things to look at!

Has it ever worked or is this a new printer installation? Have you added another card recently, assuming this is a tower computer and not a laptop?
How long is your cable? (If over the length that came with the printer you can lose communication)
Is it an onboard USB or a PCI card USB?
Have you tried switching the USB port it is connected to on the back of the computer, if you have more than 1?
Is the USB pushed all the way in the back of the computer and the printer(one pin off, the printer will show fine but the communication will not work)?
Have you downloaded the latest printer drivers?
If you've tried to install the drivers many times there may be a(many) phantom driver(s) loading (go into SAFEMODE to see these, and remove all but one)then reboot.

Hope this helps. :) ggebhart@clover.net
I hope I never get too old or arrogant to learn something new!

Look at what KIND of USB controller you have (START|SETTINGS|CONTROL PANEL|SYSTEM) if the USB is listed as
OPEN HOST CONTROLLER
Instead of Universal host controller
you can have some problems with some devices (HP printers, various scanners, maybe Lexmark too.)
