I am running an I2004 phone in my office off a BCM in another location.
The phone is now starting to act funny.
Every time I go off hook, I get no dial tone and the phone gives an error tone and says try later.
I verified that prime line is I/C

I can disable and re-enable the phone. I also unplugged it and let it come back up and it reassigned just fine.
I can even look at the button programming on the phone from the phone.

Any ideas what gives?

I can also access the BCM from my PC here that is on the same network equipment to the BCM as the phone. (Separate Connection into the same switch)

But I notice that I can no longer call up the BCM monitor for tis machine. It tells me cannot connect with user-name and Password but I think that is just a generic message..

If anyone has any ideas I would be most grateful.

Thanks.

Does the Vmail work at the BCM? Sounds like your losing the Network connection. The only time I have problems like yours is when the motherboard has leaking Caps. The 1000, 400 and the 200 have this problem.

How many IP phones at the location?

Is the fault there all the time?

What is the IP network DSL,Leased Line,T1 etc

Can you try an I2050 handset on a PC or Laptop to see if you have the same problem?

What Codec?

How many IP phones on the BCM?

Any new firewalls?

Marshall

No but a firewall might or resource issues on the central BCM certainly will. That is why I was wondering how many IP phones on the main site. I think a read about a patch for memory leakage problems on the NT platform.

Need to confirm

Marshall

Yes the voice mail works
Yeah the connection would seem likely except tat I can hit the BCM from the PC here and program it.
Leaking Caps? As in Capacitors?!!! Egads! Really?

Only one IP phone at this location, only 2 on this particular BCM. (one here, one at the site)

IP Network is Ethernet over fiber, but as I said the PC I am using to program the BCM is also going across the same link and is part of the subnet and works on BCM and Call Pilot, just no ability to do the BCM Monitor.

I have not tried a laptop and a 2050 on the link that is not working but I could, not a bad idea.

G.711 Codec

No new firewalls. No network changes at all. Everything was working fine and then those items just stopped.

Yeah I have had a problem in the past where the BCM monitor stopped working and it required a reboot to get it back to life. I found out later that there was a memeory leak in programming which was draining the RAM from the BCM and killing parts of the NT platform. Not a capacitor fault on the Mother board as Nortel have talked about.

I will see if I can dig out the programs I used to test the BCM through the VNC connection.

Marshall

Well I rebooted the BCM and the IP phone is working properly now, but I am still getting the message on the BCM Monitor and cannot connect.

Sounds like bad caps. There is a recall on 3.0 and 3.5 systems for leaky capacitors. Symptoms are gradual loss of "NT" services (VOIP, etc) until a reboot.

You can look it up on the Nortel site.

mrmarshall,

Any result on not accessing the BCM via BCM Monitor? Is there a way I can find out that it's a bad capacitor?

Just a data guy with a little knowledge, programming PBX for fun...

FYI - Nortel does have a utility tool on their web site to identify BCM's 200/400 with pontential leaking caps. The test will come up with a serial number pertaining to the BFT issue and in return when test # is given to NT - they'll tell if your BFT needs replacement on the technical bulletin PAA-2004-0484, I think the advisory has been extended to EOY 2006...
