Trouble setting up W2K Server with DSL router

I'm setting up a new W2K Server with DNS & DHCP and one NIC. I'm planning to disable DHCP on the Speedstream 5860 router and feed the router into my hub. I assume I should set the lan IP of the router to be in the reserve range of the DHCP server and set that router IP as the gateway for the server. I think I get pretty close, but with all the variables, I'm running in circles and it still won't work.

Can someone point me to a cookbook approach FAQ or article that might help?

I am also looking for a solution to somewhat simillar problem.
I have set up a dhcp server on win2k.
my client m/c are getting the ip allocated to each ofthe system
but they are not able to browse the internet
i know it is to do with DNS but i am not sure how to set up the dns or what should i do..

I don't know if this will help, but I set up a wireless network at home with a cable/modem getting me on the internet. I could not for the life of me get my wireless laptop on the internet until I discovered using ipconfig/all on my desktop, that the cable company was using 255.255.252.0 for a subnet mask. I made the laptop use a fixed ip, made the desktop's dhcp ip address for a gateway and used the same subnet mask as the cable company. I'm in my living room now with my laptop writing this using the wireless config I just talked about. Good luck. Glen A. Johnson

I had set my ntwk setting to obtain ip address from DHCP. which allocated ip address,subnet mask,dns..

but only problems is my dhcp server connect to internet but my dhcp clients does not connect to internet.

If i set up a Internet connection sharing(iCS) in my system which inturn creates a DHCP and DNS internally then my dhcp clients are able to browse.

I dont wont to use ICS instead i have a Win2k server. I would like to replicate how ICS works...
If anybody could help it would be great..

What gateways are the clients using? If they have the server as the gateway, they will not be able to get out. You should have all the clients using the router as the gateway.

You should also be careful when setting up DNS. You do not need to set up your own DNS unless you have a specific reason for not using the ISP provided DNS.

Why not use static IP's on clients like I do? If you're trying to study for MS certs, I could see it. I am also, but getting on the net is more important for the time being. Good luck. Glen A. Johnson
