We have a client who lost all passwords for their BCM200. long story short we needed to install a new hard drive to be able to log in again... we obtained a formated hard drive from nortel with an image on it.

I installed the hard drive, im now trying to run through the replacement process.

-i connected via serial connection/hyperterminal
-i chose "initialize universal profile"
-i chose "initialize menu"
-i chose "initialize universal profile"
-i chose "E1 MSC Load"

from there it started laoding and everything was fine. it got to the part where it was about to reboot. it set autologon, rebooted, but now it is just sitting at a logon prompt and hasnt logged itself back in.

i logged in manually, and nothing happened, just back at the main menu. any help or instructions on this process would be appreciated

The process seems to have finsihes. i have a C: prompt, and all lights are solid green.

Im able to do some initial configuration via the serial connection, but can not connect through the web interface.

set my ip address to 10.10.10.2, subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 and went to web address 10.10.10.1

nothing comes up.

i can ping it, and a tracert has 1 hop with my bcm system name showing, but cant access the web interface

any help greatly appreciated

It's the apache problem..
Open a DOS session thru command line in one of the menu thru the com port and change the date back on the bcm to 01-01-2008 and redo the initialization.
It will take about 30 minutes to do it and once all leds are solid green you will have access to the web interface.
There is an apache patch also but redoing the initialization will fix it.

Are you using Lan1 or Lan2. Lan1 is 10.10.10.1, and Lan2 is 10.10.11.1. If you are using Lan1 try using Lan2.

Im not farmiliar with the "apache problem" but i will try the suggestion mentioned above. to be clear, the process is:

1) through hyperterminal, select the command prompt option

2) change the date to 1/1/2008 (what is the command for this?)

3) through hyperterminal, start from step 1 of the install process(as metnioned in my original post)

?

That's exactly what i was telling you to do..
The apache problem is because there is an expiry date on the apache files embedded in the bcm, which avoid you to connect thru th web interface. The solution is to change the date back to 01-01-2008 on the bcm and then re-run the initialization.
The DOS command to change the date is: date then enter at the c: prompt.
Hope it helps.

gberger -

thanks, i was able to reset the date, im going to being the process of re-running the initialization. i do have one question though -

during the initialization process, there were several reboots. after which there is a login prompt, should i log in there, and hit option 1 again, or wait for it to resume itself.

when i waited for it to resume the first time earlier today, it just sat there forever until i inteviened. once i logged in, and chose option 1, it seemed ot pick up.

thanks for the help

Let it do all the reboots (7 or 8 as i recall) until all led are solid green(about 30 minutes).
You can still login after every reboot and you will notice the progress of the initialization, once showing completed it's done.

so i dont neccessarily need to login, i can just kick back and let it do its thing for 30 minutes until all lights are green, and ignore that login screen?

id rather not intervene with the process if not neccessary

No you don't while it does the initialization, maybe login at the end to confirm initialization is completed.

also, with the bcm200, can i connect through element manager? or only through the web interface?

its been 24 minutes. all LED lights are solid other then the 2 light (WAN?) which is out and the HDD light, which is flashing. can i assume the process has finished?

The process doesnt seem to have worked. im not sure if something went wrong. anyhow, from the instructions i got through step 10 fine... but never got a menu prompt for step 11 "MSC initilization menu"

after i get to step 10, it goes through a bunch of services and reboots. i waited 40 minutes, all lights become solid green except for 2(WAN?).

i logged in, date still showed 1/1/2008.
tried the web config, coudlnt access it. tried LAN(10.10.10.1) i could agian ping and tracert, but couldnt access via web.

i feel as if the intilization process didnt complete properly? si there a way to verify its working/completed?

is there somewhere i can get the apache patch and apply it? or is manually resetting the date the only way?

i found the apache fix tool zip file. when i tried to apply it i got an error that SSH was not running on the bcm. i logged in through the serial port and checked the services and ssh or secure shell were not even listed.

any thoughts?

EM is only for Rls 4.0 and 5.0. Since ur initializing the HD it means you have a Rls 3.x system.

Tried setting the time back and re running the initilization process a few times, but each time it was unsuccessful...

The patches, 3.6 and 3.7 both give an error about SSH service not running on the BCM200. i believe the BCM200 is 3.0...

any help would be appreciated...
