Hello group,

Sorry for the newbie question. I am trying a clean install of Windows XP Pro onto a Compaq
computer. The setup for partition and format went fine but when
setup continues it starts giving me the following:

SETUP CANNOT COPY THE FILE: WOW32.DLL

If I continue without this file, another one will come up saying it
cannot copy, and so on. The files range from .wav files to .jpg
and .gif and others.

Can any of you lead me in the right direction on this?

Thanks in advance!!

Frank G.

Clean the cd and check to make sure it isn't scratched.

Thanks for the help guys, it turned out to be a bad copy of the disk. Was able to <borrow>) a copy of xp pro from a friend and all is well now.

This forum is amazing. I posted the question at lunch time and got 2 responses by the time I was back at work. Good form mates!!!

Glad you got your computer to work. Just a sidenote, I install Win XP a lot and when it cannot find missing files, it's usually one of two things:
1. Scratched CD
2. RAM is bad (just take one ram stick out, or replace it)

Hope this helps anyone else with trouble installing xp pro.
