Hi,

I am running windows XP Pro and whenever I try to delete a large avi file (around 700mb) it tells me that it is 'in use by another program.' I usually have to press delete around 25 times before it will actually delete. I checked to see if there were any programs open actually using the file and I couldn't see any. Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks,

John

There must be a program running somewhere...like in the sys tray...do Ctl Alt delete...and look in the Applications tab and also the processes tab to see if you can find it.

Alternatively go in to SAFE mode and delete the AVI..if it goes instantly this will prove to you that something was running in normal mode....only basic programs run in SAFE mode.

You can find your answer in the Windows XP forum forum779. This is unrelated to any MS Office programs.

Thanks for your help guys,

Funny enough it was explorer.exe that was still holding some of those movies in memory. If I use task manager to kill explorer, I can delete the avi files through a command prompt.
