Hello all,

I have a strange problem. On a home network I'm running (mixed Win98SE and W2K Pro PCs), I suddenly cannot access one of the W2K machines from any other machine. A network dialog box pops up with a message that says "You must supply a password to make this connection" and shows "Resouce: \\my_name\IPC$" then a password text input bar. This hasn't been the issue previously and I have not set any security measures on that computer. Can someone let me know what the problem is and how I can get rid of that security setting?

Thanks,

Hello,

I had the same issue recently that coincided with a security patch for Win2k. Now you have to provide a password everytime you access the share.

(This next bit was copied from another forum and is not my advice but it works)

Here is what you should do to access the shares you created on your win2k machine.
from the win9x machine click start-logoff, after the logoff you will see a box with the default user that logs on to your win9x machine probably with no password... record this user name. go to the win2k machine , right click my computer, click manage , open local users and groups , open users - add new user by the name of the default user from the win9x machine - either no password or password never expires. now just give this user permissions to the share on the win2k machine.

I have not found another way round this yet.
