I am having a problem involving my antivirus program AVG and Windows XP. I am getting an error message from Windows and AVG saying that I have a trojan horse virus and that I should run AVG to eliminate it. I tried this but when I run AVG it says my computer is clean of viruses. Does anyone know why my antivirus is not reading this virus?

See smah's list of on-line scanners: faq760-3862

Where does your Anti Virus say the infection is located. Is it in any of the System Restore folders?

These are hidden and system folders and it access may be restricted. Try creating a new Restore Point then run the Disk Cleanup tool using the More Options tab and remove all but the most recent restore point.

Then re-scan.

Sorry I'm a bit of a noobie user but how do u create a system restore point?

Start, Help and Support. On the right panel see "undo changes to your computer with System Restore." You want to enable the System Restore service, and then ask it to manually set a restore point. Most big changes in your system will trigger a restore point automaticly, but you can always set one yourself before installing any new software or hardware.

Thanks alot i'll get back to you as to whether it works.
