i have an image created in photoshop saved as a jpeg, gif, and tiff file, that has a transparent background. when i try to put any of the above formats into a transparent picture box in quark , the transparent parts of the image are white. i can make it work in mirosoft publisher, but i need to use this more proffessional program. any ideas?

Right click the image box, choose modify and change the box colour to none. (windows)

How are you getting a transparent background with jpeg, GIF and TIFF? Are you using alpha channels? Clipping paths?

These file formats will always save a rectangular box unless you create a clipping path for quark. MS Publisher probably has a crude way of selecting a color to turn transparent - - but this may leave aliased edges to your images.

You could also buy a PSD import Xtension for Quark so that you can directly place a PSD file with transparency intact.

Or better yet, go with InDesign and place the PSD without needing to buy a $250 Xtension.

I am having the same issue. I have ensured that my picture box is set to none. My issue is because I have a circular image that has a transparent center. After the clipping path is created I need to save it as EPS correct?
THANK YOU!

FOund the answer. Just wanted to let you know how I did it.
Photoshop7. Select ALL the transparent areas, then click HELP>EXPORT TRANSPARENT IMAGE. It will walk you through everything you need to do. Then update your image in quark. It is saved as EPS with a clipping path

yea, i can create a quick html page to verify my gif is exported with a transparent background, and the picture box is set to none for color, i will try the clipping path.

got it, right clicked image, modify, clipping, alpha channel, prblem solved. thanks.
