Using solarwinds to monitor cisco 6509 switches. Currently solarwinds is reporting alot of transmit discards on a few interfaces connecting to windows servers.

I'm not seeing any actual errors reported on the switch interface itself.

What does this mean ?

my understanding is that TRANSMIT DISCARDS is amount of packets thrown away because of network traffic. why these packets are thrown away on your network am not sure. i am getting this activity on a 802.11 wireless device (cisco aironet 350 ap). this 350 also feeds a repeater and there is alot of incomplete out of range unusable traffic on the radio side. This is one factor why there are so many discards on my network. Perhaps are you getting this same error due to a defective network media? (cable or interface).. holla back

Thank you for you feedback. I'm not quite sure if it is a faulty card or cable on the server if it was I would see errors on the switch interface and currently there are none ?

i have seen this on solarwinds as well. i believe it is solarwinds issue. i would upgrade the IOS on the 6509 and believe it over solarwinds. unless they are excessive i wouldn't worry. more than 15%
