Translating mibs into events.

Question: I have a mib file which was provided by a software vendor. I have loaded this MIB into sadmin using ldmib and can see it successfully through mibbrowse. I would also like to see this mib translated on the event console. So far I still receive traps in the form 1.3.6.1..... Does laoding the mib give the ability to translate traps.

Any help would be appreciated.

Nope. There is no link what so ever between whats going on in the DSM and the Evenet management. The messages you get in you eventlog are probably from the catrapd process which belongs to the Event management part. WHat you can do (if you can get it to work) is using the trap translation capabilities in the CATRAPDB-database. You have to enter your traps (manually with ISQLW) into this DB and enable it via the EM confuguration menue. If you want to handle the traps via DSM and policy you have to write a DSM policy to do this.

Long time ago, there was a course about SDK that include the creation of agents, and therefore, DSM policies.
Sorry I don't remember the course name or code, but it was in the US.
