Transforming a Marquee? 1

Hi,

I was curious if there is a way to use the Transform tools on a marguee selection?

I know one can make a selection on a layer that contains an image, but that is not what I want to do. The problem is that it distorts the image. I just want to distort the marquee and not the image. Any suggestions?

You cannot just distort the marquee without distorting what's in it.

If you want to make an odd shaped selection, you can use the lasso tool or, if straght lines are desired, the polygonal lasso tool.

That's too bad. It would make my job a lot faster. My workaround right now, is to create an elipse on a empty layer with a solid fill. Then I scale and distort accordingly, make a selection, then selection the layer that the artwork in on (general concept vehicles) and then that marquee as a mask to paint in crisp and smooth lines.

I tried the mentioned techniques (lasso tool, straight lines), but I find it somewhat tedious. Plus, results are not as smooth as the above technique since the PS does an excellent job of interpolating the results of my distorted elipse.

In any case, thanks for your response. It is much appreciated.

If you use the pen tool, you can create a path, then create a selection based on that path. Dont know if that answers the question or not.

Of course you can transform the marquee.

After the marquee is drawn (with the marquee tool still selected) right click somewhere inside the marquee area and choose "Transform selection". The marquee can be transformed as how the normal free transform tool works now.

I strongly urge people... if you are not sure of an answer or frankly don't know the answer or don't understand the question then just keep quiet.

There's no point in leading people astray with wrong answers and breeding another generation of people doing things the long way.
