Help! My users constantly use forwarding to cell phones/home phones. When a call comes into the receptionist and they rapidly transfer the call to that user’s ext., the call is placed on hold. If they wait and listen for the phone to ring on the transfer it works fine. This does not happen for transfers to ext. without forwarding.

Thanks,
Mike

Are they using an application when they transfer the call like softconsole or are they doing it on the phone pressing "transfer" etc?

No, they are transferring from various digital sets. Same problem regardles of device.

That's is how it works, at least what I know of.

You can't do a real blind transfer from a deskphone that you can from an application.
That means that you'll need to wait until you hear that the call starts to ring on the fowarded destination before you complete the transfer.

When you transfer internally it connects so fast that you don't notice this, but on an externally forwarded extension it takes a while for the line to connect.

Thanks Janni,

What you just said describes my exact problem. I have customers complain about not getting sent to VM, because they are actually still sitting on hold.

Is this just a user training issue?

Usually I get this question from some customers the first couple of days after installation. I usually inform them that they have to wait until they hear it ringing before they complete the transfer.
They might comment it but accept the fact :)

This is a more frequent problem if you don't use the [0]N shortcod efor dialing since it then depends on the Time Delay before starting to ring.
