I have been running jobs on Server A, and we then moved to Server B.

Is it possible to recover data from the tapes which Server A backed up, from Server B?

I should have stated the ver is NW 7.2.1 on Win Server 2003

Sure - just use the directed recovery method.

However, you did not state whether these are/were 2 NW servers. If so, you must scan the media first.

Both servers are NW 7.2.1

I did an inventory of the media, which showed the volume names, but I cant mount the media as it does not belong to a POOL. Both servers are setup with the same pool names etc.

If i select to allocate the media to a pool, i get a prompt saying the media will be overwritten.

Sure, there are two methods to allocate the media to a pool:

- by labeling it (caution: you loose your data)
- by scanning the media
If the pool does not exist, just create one - the criteria does not matter at this point in time.

This is normal when importing a tape. NetWorker doesn't have information in the media database about the tape. So to be able to start the scan of the media, you will need to load the tape(s). What you will need to do is load without mount, before scanning the media. You can't do that from the GUI though. Use nsrjb command with switch -n to do this. Ie to load (without mount) slot 1 to tape0:

nsrjb -l -n -S 1 -f \\.\Tape0

Check the command reference for nsrjb for more info.
