I have been playing about trying to transfer a large sql2000 database to another remote server.
The only way i seem to be able to transfer the database, sensibly and quickly, is to convert the database to a access2000 file, copy this file to the new server, and then import the access2000 file.
This does work perfectly.!!
BUT>>>

Is there a SIMPLE way of transfering a database quickly??

I tried using the wizard to copy datbase, but it was taking hours to transfer the database and i killed it.

Appreciate any advice

One of the easiest way to move a large database is to detach (or take offline) the database and actually transfer the two phisical files that make up any SQL Server DB(.mdf. & .ldf). These are in the SQL server install directory in a folder called data. the other way is to do a backup and then restore the backup to the new location.

Thanks, ralphwiggum,
I will have a go at doing this.
I think!! i tried it a while ago, and i had a problem with different username and password for the server.
I am unable to test just now, as the server is online and being used.
Appreciate the help offered.
