We have acquired a new company with a small phone system. I need to establish a directory listing for the 20ish employees with in Octel Voice mail. (I have no experince with phone systems at all)

Dialing 2129 or 5001 gets me into voice mail then if I dial 6xxx I actually get to the other phone system (connected to the switch via a cross over T1).

I created a Mailbox on the Octel system as a transfer mailbox

mailbox: 6123 Mailbox type 34 Transfer
mailbox name: test,me
dept: new co
transfer destination: 6123
transfer mailbox:

If I call the voice mail system and try to spell the last name test using 8378 it tells me that "Access to that extension is not allowed"

What Am I doing wrong or how can I make this work ?

You need to add a type 0 with the user name and set the spell by name to transfer to the ext number of that user the system will not let you spell the name of a type 34 mailbox. Or you may want to make sure that the ext number in the type 34 is the same as the end user as well but i do not think it will work unless you use a type 0.

The mailbox, mailbox number, and transfer destination is the same on all systems.

Where does one "set the spell by name to transfer to the ext number" on a type 0 mailbox?

Or

How does one force a transfer to ext (all the time) on a type 0 mailbox?

It depends on the type of mailbox you are using for the spell by name. What kind are you using?

I'm not picky, I'll use what ever makes this work. As I said I know ZERO about this system or any other phone/voice mail system. I think I found a manual on line but it very confusing.

I'll take your lead if you would be so kind to suggest one

Use a type 32 and set the type of caller input to a 2 for spell by name. Make sure the name is in the mailbox as last, first and then just spell the bame from that mailbox. You can test it by calling the system from your phone and when it ases for your password hit ** and enter the mailbox number that you added as the type 32

I got it to work by just using a mailbox type of 34 Transfer Mailbox. The call group had to be a 2 and it all works well now.

Thanks for all your help!!!
