Is there a way to set up a transfer so that an incoming call can be transfered to another external number without tieing up 2 lines on the system? They have POTS lines only.

Yes there is, giving that your lines have the ability to do so.

Is that through the telephone company or done in the ip office?

if you don't want to use 2 lines then the only option is through the line provider

Depending on the phone lines, but you can create a short code that has a feature of flash hook, then the number will be the number you want to transfer the calls to. This can be an option in an Auto Attendant. I know it works on Vmpro but it should also work on embedded vmail as well.

Or if it is a call that has allready been answered, put a flash hook button on the phone. They can then press the flash hook button and dial the phone number they want to transfer the calls to.

It is a VM Pro system that I am working with.
