Why wouldn't a question about Dirct Cable Connection not be about hardware ?

SESaskDFC: Good link. Here's a star. Does DFC stand for Dam* F***ing Cold?

Franklin:

Well, that's one of the names it has been referred to but it actually stands for Deputy Fire Chief !!

XP has a utility to import files and settings from the previous computer assuming it is still in one piece and running. I think if all your files are in MY Documents folder it will copy them over. I have done this with an Ethernet Connection over a lan.

There is a forum for both win98 and winxp you can ask over there too.

fenix: nothing personal, it's just a software question (I know you stated the OSes you were using) Sure you can connect using USB but your software has to support it and asking in a software forum would be more productive. Sorry if I hurt your felings.[penguin]

I looked at the link that was referred to by *DFC before I posted but I was looking for advice by someone who has ACUTALLY USED USB with Direct Cable Connection. I'm having trouble locating a basic usb cable with 2 type A connectors anyway.

I CAN do the transfer that I need from this laptop via a 480 mb/s 2.0 Cardbus and a SuperLink Cable, but I'm trying to save the $100.

thx for the replies

OK then, no worries and have a great night !
