How can I stop the transaction log of our ASA 7.5 database from getting larger all the time? The timestamp in our .db file is unchaged since startup, only the .log file seems to be updated. Is this normal? The log file (123MB) is now larger than the db file (92MB). We do not shutdown for backup - running dbbackup for that every night.
Help!

dump transaction database_name with no_log

I'm not familiar with ASA (I use ASE) but it would probably be good to use "dump database database_name with truncate_only" before trying to use the "no_log" option. That can cause some corruption if a transaction were in progress when it was run.

Also if you can se the sp_dboption database_name, "trunc", true for the database then it would automatically truncate your log at regular intervals.

Another option is to dump the logs to a disk file or tape, if you need to save them--sounds like that's not necessary here.
