Hi all. Does anyone have any guidelines for choosing an appropriate training course for SQL Server Administration?

I am trying to find something in my area, but I just don't know who to trust.

I am more or less interested in db administration training, as I'm proficient in queries and development.

I found one place, SkillRamp.com that offers many, many seminars in my area, but I have never heard of them before.

If someone has used them, would you care to share your experience with them?

Thanks

If you are focusing on MS Sqly Server then you may want to look at a facility that has MCT Certified instructors. Another item to look at would be if they teach from the MOC or did they make up their own course.

Thanks everyone. I see Microsoft does list that SkillRamp, so it must be an OK outfit.

I'm looking at "Administering a Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Database". The only thing I am wary of is that maybe the course could be too basic? Has anyone taken this? And if so, is it recommended to someone who knows the ins and outs of systems design, but just wants to learn how to better administer databases?

I have taken this course. I was made into a dba from an app developer(additional duty). I am very learning focused and read one of the preperation for the sqlserver exam books before the class because i wanted to have some background before i went. It ended up being almost exactly the same as the manual and the course were. I knew proably 85-90 of the class already from just covering that book and my previous design/devleopment exeperience. So i would go to a bookstore and find one of the SQL Server 2000 Administration Study Guides. Look through it and see how much you know. if you dont know much, then this would be for you. if you know some, its still proably for you. IF you know most of it... is the company paying for it? if so i would still go. Its a fairly good course and i do occasionaly reference the manual on it.

Great info in this thread, thanks!

I'm trying to track down some desktop type training, like CD or DVD, for sql server 2000 administration, no going to classes for us!

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Linda
