I am VERY, VERY new to Sharepoint and do not know where to start with a task I've been assigned.

I am the SP administrator for our intranet site using WSS 3.0. My only experience has been with permissions, creating sites and subsites, and uploading Excel documents to Shared Documents.

My company wants to provide a "list" or a "form" on our SP site for each employee to track gas mileage for work week on a daily basis to be summarized in a report at week's end. This should be something they can see on their blackberry.

Is this even possible through creating custom lists and how would I secure it for each individual to see only their sheets? Can I use MS SSRS to provide the summary report through SP? Would I need to create an Access 07 database to store the info and link it back to SP?

I really don't know where to begin and would appreciate any help I can get. Thanks!

You could probably use a list with different views pretty easily for data entry, but most of the difficulty is getting it to display on the blackberry... with your limited committment to SharePoint (ie wss 3.0 ;-) ) I would recommend sending a report out via email that gives them their totals. You could do the report in Access.

Off hand I wonder if you couldn't do something with RSS, I bet the blackberry has an RSS reader built in. I think WSS has that capability as well so you might be able to work something out where they get updates when they are in the office.

Thank you for responding.

I think what they want is something fairly simple. Just an excel file that lets them track total mileage each day for a week. The Blackberry part comes in so they can see it from there and enter the day's mileage into a Sharepoint form or file and then print that out at the end of a week from Sharepoint.

I don't know enough about this to even ask an intelligent question. I'm reading every blog I can and checking out tutorials to see if something sounds workable to me. Maybe I can find a way to do this before I pull my hair out!

Again, thanks for responding!
